Macbeth

In Praise of the Stage

The theatre is great for you

And everyone on stage indeed.

It tells you how to love and woo

And how to get the things you need.

The theatre will make you feel,

And also stimulate your brain.

You'll even find some sex-appeal

And only very little strain.

Refrain

The theatre inspires you,

It makes you feel and lets you dream

And it can do much more for you;

In our hearts it reigns supreme.

The stage makes life appear quite fresh,

Intensifies the way you act,

There's none of empty-headed trash,

Believe you me, this is a fact.

In love's amazing rodeo

You can be handsome Romeo

Who courts his sweet love Juliet,

If that's not true, I'll eat my hat.

Refrain

The theatre inspires you

It makes you feel and lets you dream

And it will do much more for you;

In our hearts it reigns supreme.

So, if you have a secret dream

Of ruling like a famous queen,

The theatre will see to that

I'll bet on it my pussy-cat.

You'll be a tyrant if you must,

A soldier or a simple maid,

A crawling creature eating dust –

Just get on stage! Don't be afraid!

Refrain

The theatre inspires you

It makes you feel and lets you dream,

And it will do much more for you;

In our hearts it reigns supreme.
